The Massala tree (Strychnos spinosa) is a tree native subtropical Africa. Produce a big juicy and sweet yellow fruit about 12cm in diameter, are used as an additional source of food for the rural population. The fruit is often sun dried for later use as preserves.
Although it is a deciduous plant, fall foliage develops an attractive yellow color. The decoction of the leaf or root is used as an analgesic in central Africa. It is a very hardy tree and can grow even in poor, rocky soil. It takes years studying this species as potential fruity in dry areas in Israel.
