The Wampee or Wampi (Clausena lansium) is a subtropical fruit of the citrus family and is very hardy and can withstand up to -2ºC, adapting to the climate of the Mediterranean without difficulty ,comes from southern China and Vietnam where it is much appreciated. It is a fruit very similar to Longan but has little to do with this other fruit. The Wampee has no preference for one type of soil but likes to have a thorough watering in hot weather.
Wampee fruit is eaten fresh, pulp also can be used for the production of juices and jellies. A portion of 100 g of pulp contains 30 mg of vitamin C, which is the ratio of their relative orange. According to Chinese tradition, the fruit of Wampee is good for the stomach especially after heavy meals.
Immature fruit and dry roots are used in the treatment of bronchitis. Ripe fruits are used for stomach problems and to eliminate intestinal parasites. The extract of the leaves is used as a shampoo to control dandruff and maintain hair color.
