'African Pride' - This is the main commercial variety in South Africa and Australia. Along with 'Gefner' and '4826 'is one of the few varieties that produce reasonable amounts of fruit without pollination. Fruit quality is very good.
Atemoya is a hybrid between cherimoya and custard apple Annona squamosa receiving the virtues of both species. Atemoya have fewer seeds than the cherimoya.
The fruit is oval, and tapered toward the apex. The skin consists of several areolas, forming fleshy protuberances. The surface fabric knotted, making the fruit superficially resembles an artichoke. The fruit may weigh between 200 grams to 500 grams more, and may measure from 8 to 16 centimeters in diameter. It ripens 4 to 6 months after flowering. The skin color varies from green-blue, pea green to gray-pink. The flesh is usually white but may be tinged with pink. The atemoya combines a variety of flavors: vanilla, cranberry, and pineapple. Its sweetness is intense and is balanced by a fruity and slightly acidic. The texture is very thin. The fruit may contain from 10 to 30 seeds bright, dark brown.
